Teapot

Teapot Complete! I have been in school for the last two years, and my final project was to design and raise a teapot out of copper. I then had it silver plated. You will know why I didn't make it out of silver if you have seen the price of silver lately. My design is based on a concrete wine cask shaped like an egg, check them out here, made by Nomblot. At the end of last spring semester we had a tea party at Oregon College of Art and Craft and along with my four other classmates (who also completed their teapots, which doesn't always happen) we celebrated this grand accomplishment with Steven Smith tea that was selected by none other than artisan, teamaker Steven Smith himself to compliment each teapot design. For example, my dear friend Kathy made the cutest ever Panda teapot (see below) and he selected a lovely green tea blend. My Friend Adrian made a star teapot with a purple handle that was pouring a beautiful purple colored hibiscus tea. My teapot was chosen to hold the Oregon College of Art Craft blend.

Begin Anywhere...

I had to read An Incomplete Manifesto by Bruce Mau, of Bruce Mau Designs for my Design class. And while it was a very inspiring, motivating read, the one thing that hit me pretty hard was # 9 taken from John Cage stating that not knowing where to begin is a common form of paralysis. I have that!!!! I literally feel like I can't even take another step when starting a new project. So I watch a little Simpsons, peruse my favorite Etsy artist's shops, eat some cheese and lo and behold I STILL don't know where to start. At this point I start sweating a little, my heart starts racing and then I take the dog for a walk. By then it is dinner time and I have laundry to do and the next thing you know, bedtime.

His advice? Begin anywhere.

ps the pic is of me beginning my first ever outdoor bouldering climb that I actually completed!

Working on new pictures for my Etsy shop. I think the bright colors are really pretty but they just aren't my style. So I am working on new new pictures with more of a prairie theme, or at least a Jenny/Arizona/grasslands theme and I am working out what that means exactly.

Back from the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show

I had a great time in Tucson, as always! I work for The Clamshell every year, and it is always very convienent because I would shop there anyways! I grew up in Tucson, so going for the show is always rejuvinating. The dry, warm air is healing coming from the wet, wet, wet of Oregon. It's like a vitamin D injection.

Master Gardener's Course

I am taking the local Master Gardener's class and so far it is awesome! Did my first assignment and now know I have a Tree Aeonium, Aeonium arboreum var. arboreum plant in my home, I think... I guess I will have to wait till my assignment is graded. I bought this plant because it reminded me of my late kitty, Hannah's Bee. She was a beautiful, fluffy Maine Coon (I convinced myself that she was at least part this, I got her at the Humane Society)

Preparing for the New Year...

Some things I am working on right now. Shrub Oak Leaves from Arizona.

It is time to clean up my studio and get back to work. I took a break when I became overwhelmed with holiday plans. I love seeing pictures of other people's studios on Etsy's Open Studio Tours It always gives me ideas for organization and lets me know it's okay to be messy too...

Happy Autumn!

I love walking around in the fallen leaves. My dog, Juniper loves it too. It is a very inspirational time of year and there are so many things to discover outside.
